Is Anger a Problem?

While anger is a normal emotion, meaning everyone experiences it, anger can have devastating effects on individuals and families if it's left to simmer and boil over.  The feeling of anger itself is not negative; just an indication that something is not going right.  How we deal with anger becomes the problem.  When our behaviors hurt others either emotionally or physically, anger becomes a problem.  If you answer "yes" to any of the following questions; anger may be a factor in your current problems:
  • Are you or someone you know yelling and/or feeling defensive regularly?
  • Are you or someone you know making threatening comments to others?
  • Are you or someone you know finding it difficult to calm themselves down?
  • Do you or someone you know lose their patience with others easily?
  • Do you or someone you know hit, kick, throw things when angry?
  • Do you or someone you know hit others when angry?
  • Are your children fearful of you when you are angry?
  • Do you or someone you know get angry often when discussing feelings?
If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, counseling can help.  I will work with you and others involved in your relationships to gain a better understaning of the dynamics of anger, teach you coping skills and help you develop helpful modes of communication to decrease the influence of anger in your life.
